Archives & Sacramental Records
Searching for Your Catholic Roots
The Archives of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Winnipeg genealogy research policy is responsive to requests by family members. It does not have a research room open to the public and genealogy information is provided by mail only.
Access is restricted under Canada's Personal Information Protection legislation to the following:
- Birth registrations after 100 years
- Marriage registrations after 75 years
The Archives of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg does not accept requests for searches for Death records.
A computer data base containing Baptismal and Marriage records for the parishes of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg up to approximately the year 2000 to assist in the locating of records has been completed. Please check the map to determine if the location you are researching is within the geographical boundries of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. Sacramental records for locations outside this area are not available at this office.
Information found during a genealogy search is provided by photocopying the entry found in the microfilm copy of the register. Translation of language is not provided. No certificates are issued. A fee is charged for one hour of genealogy search time and is payable, even if family records are not located. Four to six weeks is a reasonable time to have research completed.
