Respect for Life WeekJanuary 8, 2002 February 3rd to 10th is Respect Life Week. It is both a challenge and a responsibility for the Church to continue to insist on the sacredness of human life both in the context of our parish communities and in the larger community to which we are called to preach the Good News of Jesus. There is no doubt that our culture dulls our sense of the dignity of all life; abortion, euthanasia, bio technology, cloning, etc. so easily accepted, tempt us to treat human life as just one more commodity to be dealt with as we wish. We are all the poorer for this kind of environment. Respect for Life Week can be a time for each of us and each of our parish communities to examine our own attitudes and behaviours. Do we hold all of human life in dignity? As sacrament of our Lord's presence, do we manifest a deep respect for all human persons no matter where they are on the journey of life? The League for Life Manitoba Inc. plays an important role in this work in our Province. During Respect for Life Week the League will circulate pamphlets for distribution and envelopes for donations which will help the League with its important work. I ask you to support these efforts. + V. James Weisgerber Back to Letters & Articles Main Page
