What is Nathanael?

Formation Process

  • Nathanael is designed to facilitate personal and spiritual growth within the candidate whereby our triune God is an integral part of the formation process.

  • Nathanael provides the opportunity for the candidates to process the content internally and through open and honest discussion with other participants, they feel called to grow in their own personal and spiritual lives.

  • Each candidate is a uniquely gifted creation of God and is called to a unique relationship according to his (her) own special gifts and talents. Through the grace of the Holy Spirit, the formation process will help the candidate to discover and use effectively his (her) special gifts for service within the local and universal Church.

Tried Tested and True

Nathanael is not a new program to our two Archdioceses. Nathanael was willed and mandated by the Archbishops of St. Boniface and Winnipeg. The Directorate Team of Nathanael receives its mandate from the local church authorities, initiated and implemented by the Archbishops of St. Boniface and Winnipeg. The Directors are thereby called by the Church to provide candidates with the necessary tools for continuing formation in the faith.

In 1988, the Archbishops of St. Boniface and Winnipeg decided that a lay formation program was needed to foster the communion and unity of the local church, which is the diocese and defined by Vatican II as the people of God in union with their Bishop. Thereby, Nathanael is able to promote the type of leadership which will ensure harmony in the parish community and in the Diocesan and Universal Church.

Since 1988 Nathanael has grown and is now offered simultaneously to four different groups. In the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, it is offered in Winnipeg and Brandon; in the Archdiocese of St. Boniface, it is offered to an English group and to a French group.
