Why Nathanael?

Vision of Vatican II

  • Nathanael promotes the vision and theology of Second Vatican Council, with attention to the wish for the involvement of all the baptized in full and active living of the Paschal Mystery of Christ. All Christians are called into ministry and are called to transform the world by their willingness to undergo conversion (metanoia). By taking on the mind and heart of Christ, they offer the World to its Creator by transforming it into the image of His Son. Progress in the continuing effort to be transformed into the image of Christ demands the integrity and the willingness to enter into the suffering and dying of Christ, so as to participate in His resurrection.

  • The mandate for the study and the living of social justice is clearly articulated in the documents of Vatican II as well as in subsequent papal documents. While becoming aware of our own gifts and talents, the importance of service to the poor, marginalized, and suffering is emphasized throughout the process.

  • Nathanael formation encourages an authentic response to the call given to all by God at baptism. This call is to the living of our faith and Gospel commitment according to the model of the Church as proposed by the Second Vatican Council.

  • The goal of Nathanael mirrors the mission of the Church:

    • To gather all of humanity into the communion of love of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and to prepare for the coming of the Kingdom of God.

    • To become more aware of the universal call of all the baptized to the living of her mission.

    • Our Baptismal Call - being anointed at our Baptism as:

      • Priest - called to offer worship to God and to offer service to humanity
      • Prophet - called to stand for truth and justice in the world
      • King - called to be productive stewards of the gifts received and to be responsible in respecting all that God has created

Dignity of Each Person

Each of us has a divine mission and purpose in this life. Inherent to all is a real desire to know, experience and deepen our relationship with God. We want to know: “who is God and how is God working in my life?” and “who am I and how do I enhance my life based on my uniqueness?” Nathanael helps us to explore these questions and it also helps us to understand what it means to be Catholic and to belong to a faith community.

Faith Formation

  • In response to the vision of Vatican II, we are all called to grow in our understanding, maturity, and relationship with our God and the Church.

  • The Nathanael process consists of both personal and spiritual development in the areas of scripture study, spirituality, theology, human growth and liturgy formation.

  • Recognition and development of our faith and our unique gifts and talents given to us by God will enhance and deepen our relationship with God and community.
