Sharing God's Gifts 2016
Our Annual Appeal
Acts of Mercy Works of Love
Archdiocese of Winnipeg

The Archdiocese of Winnipeg has begun a review of Sharing God's Gifts, our annual appeal. A Steering Committee has been created to examinine the forms the Appeal has taken since its inception in the late 1990s. The archdiocese has also engaged the services of a consultant specializing in diocesan transformation. It is the belief of Archbishop Gagnon that with the recent completion of our Centennial Year, now is the time to examine how the appeal can be made stronger.

Focus group meetings were held last fall at St. Dominic's Church in Neepawa, and at St. Anthony of Padua Church (West Kildonan), in Winnipeg. The gatherings produced positive engagement with the participation of a wide cross section of people, both laity and clergy. Among other things the committee heard that there has been some confusion around the appeal and parish assessment and people are suggesting a need for a clearer, simpler formula.

Since the focus groups convened last fall the Steering Committee met with consultant Tom Reid of the Reid Group in October, November and January. A number of recommendations emerged from those meetings and these are currently being reviewed by the Steering Committee. Archbishop Gagnon is meeting with all the priests of the archdiocese on March 8, to discuss these recommendations and proposed changes to the annual appeal and Stewardship Office, and to receive the priests' input and suggestions.

The Ministries Supported by Sharing God's Gifts

Home Missions

A vital ministry in our Archdiocese is the support of our Home Missions. These are Missions throughout the Archdiocese which serve the needs of our smaller communities including our First Nations sisters and brothers. Your gift to Sharing God's Gifts adds needed financial resources to match the enthusiasm of the parishioners of our Home Missions.

Youth and Faith Formation

Growing in faith is a life long journey. A portion of the goal of Sharing God's Gifts is used in nurturing faith among children, youth and adults. Our catechetical office supports training and formation for those involved in children's catechism programs in our parishes. The work of the Director of Education assists the educational and pastoral endeavours of our Catholic Schools. The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry offers programs and initiatives that lead our youth to a deeper relationship with Christ and His Church through programs such as YouthLeader, retreats, workshops and the annual Youth Rally.

Priests & Seminarians

At right, Rev. Peter Nemcek (left) and Rev. Christopher Dubois (right) were ordained to the Ministerial Priesthood for service in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg in July, 2015, by Archbishop Richard Gagnon. Sharing God's Gifts provides resources for the education and preparation of our seminarians. There are currently two seminarians studying for priesthood in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.

The appeal also supports pensions for priests in retirement after their many years of faithful service to our church. At right, Fr. Henryk Laciak, retired since 2011, celebrates his 50th Anniversary of Priestly Ordination in April, 2015.
