World Youth Day 2011

World Youth Day is an experience geared towards young adults to celebrate and learn about their Catholic faith. In this celebration of faith young adults build bridges of friendship and hope between continents, peoples and cultures to deepen their faith. The next World Youth Day will be taking place August 15^th to 21^st 2011 in Madrid, Spain. Prior to World Youth Day, the Days in the Dioceses will be taking place form August 11^th to 14^th 2011.

The Archdiocese of Winnipeg will be offering three packages for WYD 2011:

Package 1:

Days in the Diocese and World Youth Day
August 10^th to August 22^nd 2011

• with hotel accommodations during World Youth Day ($3,900 – estimated price)
• with simple World Youth Day accommodations ($2,500 – estimated price)

Package 2:

World Youth Day only
August 13^th to August 22^nd 2011

• with hotel accommodations during World Youth Day ($3,700 – estimated price)
• with simple accommodations ($2,200 – estimated price)

Pilgrims

All persons participating in WYD 2011 in the Archdiocese Winnipeg must be 18 years of age or older by July 31^st 2011 to participate (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Travel/Medical Insurance

Pilgrims are required to purchase medical insurance for WYD 2011, but travel insurance is at the discretion of the pilgrim.

Medical Release

All persons participating in WYD 2011 are required to complete the medical release portion of the application form.

Pilgrims Code

The Pilgrims Code states that you agree to follow the guidelines presented by the Archdiocese Winnipeg. To ensure a positive experience, these guidelines must be signed by every pilgrim.

Cost/Payments for WYD Package Options

All costs related to the WYD Package Options (airfare, accommodations, etc.) are based on a 2010 travel estimate for 2011, and the current exchange rate. Currency fluctuations are possible between now and the time of departure. When a finalized cost for the trip is produced, pilgrims will receive all necessary price adjustments. The adjustments to the cost will be known by the Fall of 2010. All payments for WYD will follow a payment schedule to be determined after January 15^th 2010. Final payment for WYD Packages will be due by April 15^th 2011.

To register for WYD 2011, a deposit of $300.00 must accompany the registration form and sent to: WYD 2011, Catholic Centre, 1495 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 2C6.

Cheques must be made payable to the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.

WYD Registration Fee

The Archdiocese of Winnipeg has estimated the WYD package price at $375. Included in the WYD package is entry to all WYD activities, public transportation in and around Madrid during WYD, WYD welcome package, and meals. This final cost of the WYD package will be made known when it becomes available.

Registration for WYD may be done by individual parishes or through the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.

Availability

All package options have a limited availability and are subject to availability at the time of booking. Those wishing to participate in WYD 2011 must submit their registration form and deposit to the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at the Archdiocese of Winnipeg by January 15^th 2010. After this date, there is no guarantee that a spot is available.

Passports/Visas

No visa is required to enter any of the countries we are visiting unless you do not hold a Canadian Passport. To participate in any of the WYD Packages, you will be required to have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after August 2011 for the safety of return entry into Canada. All pilgrims must provide with their registration a copy of their valid passport by June 1^st 2011. Those who do not hold a Canadian Passport will be required to check with their embassy about entry requirements into the countries being visited.

Preparation Requirements

All those participating in WYD 2011 will be required to attend 3 to 4 one day preparation sessions. These sessions are intended for those participating to become familiar with the group, learn necessary materials/information, and spiritually prepare for WYD 2011.
