The Archives of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Winnipeg serves in acquiring, preserving, organizing, and making available the records and materials relevant to telling the story of the archdiocese, its people and culture(s), its programs, parishes, and institutions.
Researchers may contact the Archives Office with questions, and the Director of Archives will provide information on whether or not relevant records are available in our collections. We do not have a public research room – requests to view historical records must be made to the Archives Office. If records are available, a research visit may be arranged with the Director of Archives.
The Archives of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Winnipeg genealogy research policy is responsive to requests by family members. Individuals may contact the Archives Office to confirm the availability of the records they require.
Access is restricted following the timelines of Canada's Personal Information Protection legislation:
The Archdiocese of Winnipeg Archives Office is not able to provide information for Death/Burial records.
To assist in locating records, the Archives Office has a database containing basic information for Baptismal and Marriage records for the parishes of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg up to the year 2010. Please check the parish locations map to determine if the location you are researching is within the geographical boundaries of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. Sacramental records for locations outside this area are not available at this office.
Sacramental records certificates include the original information from the entries found in the microfilm copy of the relevant parish register. Translation of language is not provided. Four to six weeks is a reasonable time to have a search completed.
All requests and payment must be provided with the official request forms, available for download below or in person at the Archdiocese of Winnipeg Catholic Centre. As of 1 January 2019, our rates are $25 per record. Each record request requires its own form.
